Google Play screenshot sizes
Google Play does not publish one screenshot dimension — it publishes a range plus an aspect-ratio rule, then recommends a size inside it. Here is the whole thing, read from Play Console Help, with the parts that actually reject an upload called out.

That is Google's own recommended portrait size, and the smallest that satisfies its “at least 1080 px” recommendation at 9:16. Play will accept anything from 320 px to 3840 px per side as long as the long side is no more than twice the short side.
What Google Play requires
| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| Format | JPEG or 24-bit PNG (no alpha) |
| Minimum dimension | 320 px |
| Maximum dimension | 3840 px |
| Aspect ratio | Long side ≤ 2 × short side |
| Minimum to publish | 2, across different device types |
| Maximum | 8 per supported device type |
| Recommended | 4+ at ≥ 1080 px16:9 landscape (min 1920 × 1080) or 9:16 portrait (min 1080 × 1920) |
| Large screens | 1080–7680 pxTablets and Chromebooks: 4 or more recommended, 16:9 or 9:16 |

The three rules that actually bounce an upload
1. An alpha channel. Play asks for JPEG or 24-bit PNG. A 32-bit PNG with transparency is the single most common rejection, and it is easy to produce by accident — most design tools export PNG with alpha by default.
2. The 2:1 rule. It is not enough to be inside 320–3840. The longer side cannot be more than twice the shorter one, which rules out tall, narrow “story” crops. 9:16 (1.78:1) and 16:9 are both comfortably inside it.
3. Too few screenshots. Two across different device types is the floor for publishing at all, and Google recommends at least four. A listing with two phone screenshots and nothing else is publishable but thin.
Phone, tablet and Chromebook are counted separately
The 8-screenshot ceiling applies per supported device type, not per listing — so a phone set and a tablet set do not compete for the same slots. For large screens Play states a 1080–7680 px range and recommends a minimum of four screenshots, which is why a Play listing that ships only phone-shaped art looks unfinished on a tablet.
What ExportKit exports
1080 × 1920 PNG, in 9:16 portrait, up to eight per set — Google's recommended size exactly, with
no watermark and no cap on how many you export. They arrive in the zip under
screenshots/phone/, numbered in the order you arranged them. Switch the device to
tablet and the same set exports at 1600 × 2560 for Play's tablet slots.
It is free to use: 1080 × 1920 Play screenshots, the icon, the feature graphic, the full
.zip and three screenshot template sets, with no watermark and no cap on exports. The rest of
the template library is a one-time licence that is not on sale yet. You can start
without an account; signing in with Google is what keeps the work between visits.
ExportKit does not write your screenshots for you and there is no image generation in it: you bring the app screens and the words, and it handles layout, sizing and export. That is a deliberate line, not a missing feature — a generated store listing is a rejected store listing.

Questions
How many screenshots does Google Play require?
A minimum of two, across different device types, before you can publish a store listing, and up to eight for each supported device type. Google recommends at least four at 1080 px or more.
What size should Google Play screenshots be?
Any size from 320 px to 3840 px per side, as long as the long side is no more than twice the short side. Google recommends at least 1080 px, in 16:9 landscape (minimum 1920 × 1080) or 9:16 portrait (minimum 1080 × 1920). 1080 × 1920 is the usual portrait choice.
Does Google Play accept transparent PNG screenshots?
No. Play asks for JPEG or 24-bit PNG with no alpha channel. Flatten the image before uploading.
Can Google Play screenshots be landscape?
Yes. Play documents 16:9 landscape with a minimum of 1920 × 1080, alongside 9:16 portrait. Use whichever matches how the app is actually used.
Is 1080 × 1920 good enough for tablet screenshots?
It is inside Play's large-screen range of 1080–7680 px and meets the aspect-ratio rule, so it will upload. It will not look like a tablet app, though — a tablet set that shows the wider layout is the point of having a separate device type.
